Our trip to Mackinaw Island!

Get ready for a long post. This past week/weekend Tommy and I went on our first little vacation together. We took Memphis, got a dog friendly hotel, and had SO much fun. I took tons of pictures and now you all get to see what we did!

Wednesday morning, we packed up the car and hit the road for a 3 hour journey North.

We arrived at our hotel, and Memphis was instantly in psycho mode! We got a triple queen room, 3 beds…, and there was only two of us and the dog. We were offered to “downsize” but they weren’t willing to refund the price difference, so we just rolled with our JUMBO hotel room. It was awesome! Lots of room for her to jump around and play.

The first part of the day that we got there was gloomy, so we took memphy for a walk down by the 3 mile long bridge, and walked by the lighthouses.

After that, we went and grabbed a bite to eat, then went and toured an old ice breaker boat.

The boat tour was probably one of the top three coolest things we did our whole trip! Tommy told the engine room tour guide that he builds motors for a living, so once the tour groups ahead of us went to the next part of the boat, he took us in the “off limits” part of the boat and gave us our own little private up close tour. It was awesome.

Next we headed downtown to do some shopping. These stores were crazy! So many touristy items to chose from!

The next day we packed up and drove an hour farther north into the Upper Peninsula! We crossed the mackinaw bridge, which was slightly scary but really cool!

Our first stop was the shipwreck museum. Tommy thought it was cool, I was highly UNDER impressed. It was a dog friendly museum, which was awesome… It just Looked a lot cooler in the brochures. Right next door was the whitefish point lighthouse and sand dunes, which memphy LOVED!

Next stop was the upper and lower falls. They were AMAZING. The lower falls were shallow enough that you could actually swim in them. Memphy is scared of water tho, so we passed on that. The upper falls were absolutely breath taking, and pictures don’t even slightly show you their true beauty.

That night we ate all you can eat crab legs at the lighthouse restaurant. The building was gorgeous and the food was amazing. Can’t wait to go back and eat there again!!

Friday we headed to the island. The weather was perfect and the boat ride over was a blast! We took the starline ferry over, and it was worth every penny.

First thing we did when we got to the island was rent bikes and went for a ride along the water. It was breezy and SUPER hilly. Tommy wasn’t the biggest fan of that. So about an hour later we returned the bikes!

Next we went on a horse drawn carriage around the island. My favorite thing of the whole trip. The horses were so cool. Henry was my favorite and he loved me petting him.

Two of the best spots we stopped on the horse tour was arch rock and fort mackinac. The fort was the third of my top three favorite trip tours. Such a cool place with lots of history. They do gun and canon explosions every hour, and it’s a self guided tour of the houses and buildings, left how they were in the olden days.

Our boat trip back from the island was awesome. We took the 6:30 boat and they took us under the bridge. It was even better than going over it!

That’s our trip in a longgggg nutshell. I hope you enjoyed hearing all about it.

Have you ever been to mackinaw?

Shut the front door,

Xoxo, Jess.
